LEOPARD 2 A4 - Customer-specific adaptation to individual requirements

The LEOPARD 2 A4 was developed further to meet specific customer requirements based on experience gained from the Balkan conflict and in Afghanistan. With it, the Canadian army gained the world’s first LEOPARD 2 with additional all-round protection from IEDs and modern hand-held anti-tank weapons.

The LEOPARD 2 was further developed into the A4 to meet specific customer requirements based on experience gained from the Balkan conflict and in Afghanistan. The system components optimized to protect the vehicle crew have proven themselves among NATO partners in deployment in Afghanistan, and some appear in other variants. As a result, vehicle crews gain effective protection from mines, improvised explosive and incendiary devices and hand-held anti-tank weapons.

The LEOPARD 2 A4 owes its outstanding performance capability to an ideal combination of protection, mobility, maneuverability and fire power. The optimal maneuverability of the LEOPARD 2 is based on the unique symbiosis between vehicle crew and cutting-edge German-made technology. The continuous refinement of the primary and secondary defense effectively protects the crew and the machine itself from the latest types of ammunition and threats.

The armed forces of 18 nations rely on the versatile superiority of the LEOPARD. With over 3,500 units, this is a rate which is unparalleled worldwide. Moreover, many international customers have planned and designed supply concepts, further developments and modification projects collectively using the LEO User Club. Readiness

To expand operative capabilities, the A4 is equipped with an engineer interface and additional mounts for attaching a dozer blade, mine plough or mine roller.

Protection

The additional protection modules on the turret expand the basic protection to counter the threats at hand and secure the crew’s survival.

Heavy defense

The 120mm main gun (caliber length 44) together with high-performance stabilization ensure exceptional combat capabilities and hit probability during travel.

Protection

The underbody has been reinforced in order to protect the crew from mines. Adapted suspension systems eliminate potential dangers to the soldiers.

Safe driving

A combination of thermal imager and low light amplifier, the driver’s night vision system has been improved for front and rear view.
