The CAESAR®8x8 is a 155 mm / 52 caliber self-propelled howitzer mounted on an 8x8 chassis, providing superior mobility and long-range precision fire capability, up to 70 km. It features a semi-automated loading system and digital fire control system. The CAESAR®8x8 holds 36 complete rounds and has a crew of 4.
The CAESAR®8x8 inherits the excellent and well proven 52 Cal. weapon system of CAESAR®MK1, reknown for its endurance, accuracy and security of operation, even in prolonged fire missions in high charges. The fire function is improved with a new generation inertial navigation unit, and even faster in and out of action performances than MK1. CAESAR®8x8 is operated by a reduced crew of four compared to 6x6 series, and benefits from a semi-automated shell loading system. This system has proved able to handle a large variety of ammunition and charges, proving its very high interoperability. Additionnaly, the FIRE function benefits from a wider angle of fire compared to 6x6. CAESAR®8x8 carries 36 ammunition.
The CAESAR®8x8 has an increased off-road mobility based on the Tatra T-815 chassis, an armoured cabin fitted with an automatic weapon. CAESAR® 8x8 is transportable by A400M. The CAESAR®8x8 was deployed in Ukraine only a few months after being fielded, and has benefited from various improvements from its intensive firing and commitment in high intensity operations.
