The CAESAR®MK2 is an advanced 155mm / 52-caliber self-propelled howitzer. Built on the requirement of the French Army, this new version retains the excellent 155mm 52 Cal. weapon, and includes reinforced ballistic protection. This version benefits from an improved mobility enabled by a new Volvo engine. The increased powerpack allows faster in and out of action performances. The CAESAR®MK2 retains a crew of 5 with an improved cabin ergonomics. Like its predecessor, it can be manned by a crew of 3.
CAESAR®MK2 inherits the excellent and well proven 52 Cal. weapon system of CAESAR®MK1, renown for its endurance, accuracy and security of operation, even in prolonged fire missions in high charges. The fire function is improved with a new generation inertial navigation unit, and even faster in and out of action performances than MK1. MK2 retains the renown ergonomics of MK1 for fire missions and ammunition resupply operations, with some new features. The ergonomics of the cabin is a step change for the crew, and the cabin is much more protected. Protection extends to the run flat tyres newly featured. In order to retain an excellent mobility, CAESAR®MK2 requires a much strengthened engine doubling the power capacity. Its mass is increased but MK2 can be transported by A400M, and the fuel consumption remains low. MK2 has benefited from several improvements as a direct consequence from the commitment of CAESAR® series in Ukraine.
